     Ray Franklin Hockersmith was born on 19 August 1892 at Des Moines, Polk Co., Iowa.2,4 Conflicting evidence states that Ray was born at Des Moines, Polk Co., Iowa, on 19 August 1890.3,5 He was the son of Louis F. Hockersmith and Anna Stout.3

Ray Franklin Hockersmith was a blacksmith on 5 June 1917 at Marshalltown, Marshall Co., Iowa.2

Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31. As a result, this first registration included men born between June 5, 1886 and June 5, 1896. Ray Franklin Hockersmith filled out a draft card on 5 June 1917 in Marshalltown, Marshall Co., Iowa. He is described as of tall height and medium build with brown eyes and hair. He has a dependent wife and mother.2

Ray Franklin Hockersmith died on 1 March 1970 at University Hospital, Iowa City, Johnson Co., Iowa, at age 79 years, 6 months and 10 days.3 He was buried on 6 March 1970 at Greenwood Cemetery, Muscatine, Muscatine Co., Iowa.3
