     John Alexander Hockersmith was born on 29 September 1876 (probably in Davis Co., Iowa).2,3,4 He was the son of Sidney B. Hockersmith and Rebecca J. Alexander.1

John Alexander Hockersmith was enumerated with Sidney B. Hockersmith as John Hockersmith on the Census of 1885 at Fox River Township, Davis Co., Iowa. Shown as a school boy and age 8. He was born in Davis County, Iowa.5

John Alexander Hockersmith married Winifred Bridgeman on 27 August 1902 when he was 25.6

John Alexander Hockersmith was a farmer on 12 September 1918 at Kimball, Brule Co., South Dakota.2

When a child, his parents, John and Lucinda H., moved to Davis county, and here he has grown to manhood on a farm, being educated in the common schools. He now owns a nice farm of 160 acres, all under cultivation, which he bought on time, as he had no capital, and has it now all paid for. He was married in this county in 1872, to Miss Rebecca J. Alexander, a native of Indiana, and they have three children, Mary L., James T., and John A. Mr. H. is a member of the Regular Baptist Church.
