     Benjamin Hockersmith was born on 19 January 1805 at Kentucky; age 44 and born in KY. according to the 1850 Census.1,2 He was the son of Jacob Hockersmith , Jr. and Anna Kiziah Skinner.

Benjamin Hockersmith married Mary (Polly) Grisham on 28 September 1828 at Shelby Co., Kentucky, when he was 23.3,4,5

Benjamin Hockersmith is head of household on the Census of 26 September 1850 at Fox Township, Davis Co., Iowa, as Benjamin Hockersmith. Shown as a farmer, age 44, and born in Kentucky. He could not read or write. Also enumerated were George W. Hockersmith, Newton Hockersmith, Edward Hockersmith, Malvina Hockersmith, Jasper Hockersmith, Daniel Hockersmith and Mary (Polly) Hockersmith.6

Benjamin Hockersmith died on 28 June 1885 at Adair Co., Iowa, at age 80 years, 5 months and 9 days.2
