John Gravitt was also known as John Gravett.4 He was born in May 1757 at Spotsylvania Co., Virginia.5,3,6 He was the son of George Gravitt and Catherine McCartie.1,2,3,4 John Gravitt was on the tax roll in 1787 at Orange Co., Virginia, He was assessed tax on one horse and one cow.7

John Gravitt married Ellen (?) before 1788 at Stafford Co., Virginia.8,6 John Gravitt resided in 1802 at Kentucky He was born and raised in Spotsylvania Co., VA., in which State he resided until he moved to Ky. in 1802.9,10

John Gravitt received a pension of $40 annually for his service as a Private in the Virginia militia. The pension commenced on 4 Mar 1831. He received the sum of $120. His age was shown as 77..11 He on 10 April 1833 at Clark Co., Kentucky, received a pension for service during the Revolutionary War. He entered service about two years befor the seige of York under Capt. John White of the 3rd Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. Matthews at Fredericksburg, VA. He served about twelve months and was discharged at Page's Town, VA. He was in no prominent engagement but was with scouting parties frequently.9,10

John Gravitt died in 1836 at Clark Co., Kentucky.1,8,6
