     James Ellis was born on 2 March 1837 at Harrison Co., Indiana.1,2,3,4,5 He was the son of Elias Ellis and Nancy Gritton.1 Elias Ellis is listed in the 1840 Census of Harrison Co., IN. One male age 5 and under lived in the household. James Ellis matches that age category.6

James Ellis married Millie Smith on 28 December 1856 at Floyd Co., Indiana, when he was 19.7
