     Nancy Gritton was born on 14 December 1806 at Mercer Co., Kentucky.2,1 She was the daughter of William Gritton and Jenney Jane Lipsey.1

Nancy Gritton married Elias Ellis, son of James Ellis and Elizabeth Morrison (?), on 16 March 1824 at Mercer Co., Kentucky, when she was 17.3,4,5,6

Nancy Ellis may have been enumerated in the household of Rebecca Ellis, William Morrison Ellis and Elias Ellis at Mercer Co., Kentucky, on the Census of 1830 as the female age 20 to 30.7

Nancy Ellis was a cograntor with Elias Ellis in the sale of land in Mercer Co. on Salt River and Chaplin adjoining John Strutton, William Maddox and Evan Brown at Mercer Co., Kentucky, to Bryant Riley on 25 January 1835. There is 183 acres acres in said tract and Ellis and wife have a one-ninth interest in said tract except the dower right of Jane Gritton, widow of William, holds part of tract. Their interest was sold for $15. Acknowledged by Elia Ellis and Nancy Elllis in Harrison Co., Ind. on April 3, 1839 and recorded in Mercer Co., Ky., June 22, 1839.. The deed was witnessed by an unknown person .8

Nancy Ellis was a cograntor with Elias Ellis in the sale of 115 acres of land on Brush and Loglick Creeks adjoining John S. Jones and Peter Demaree at Mercer Co., Kentucky, to John Demaree on 26 September 1835. The deed was witnessed by Austin Cole.9

Nancy Gritton and Elias Ellis resided circa 1836 at Harrison Co., Indiana, The 1850 census shows that his daughter Mary, was born in KY about 1835 and that his son James was born in IN about 1837. This indicates they moved from KY to IN between 1835 and 1837.10

Nancy Ellis may have been enumerated in the household of Elias Ellis at Morgan Township, Harrison Co., Indiana, on the Census of 1 June 1840 as the female age 30 to 40.11

Nancy Ellis was a cograntor with Elias Ellis in the sale of 70 acres in Mercer Co. on Chaplin for $70. adjoining George Wright at Mercer Co., Kentucky, to Bryant Riley on 10 July 1845. The deed was witnessed by an unknown person .12

Nancy Ellis died on 6 March 1850 at Harrison Co., Indiana, at age 43.2,13 She was buried at Sappenfield Graveyard, Harrison Co., Indiana.14

Nancy Gritton Death: Cholera. In 1830 they lived in Kentucky with 3 children under 5. In 1850 Elias Ellis lived in Harrison County, Indiana with 6 children.1
