     James M. Gravitt was born on 25 August 1940.1 He was the son of James E. Gravitt.1

James M. Gravitt James was a helicopter mechanic in the Marine Corp, Squadron assigned HMR262 which picked up Sheppard on first Mercury space shot. Also worked 10 years as an automotive machinist and then as a painter until retirement.1

James M. Gravitt married Joyce J. Irvine on 15 August 1966 when he was 25.1
