Miranda Lawson This a copy of a letter 'Rindy' McCarty wrote to the famous actor, Andy Divine, dated February 7, 1935. About 200 years ago four young men came over from Old Virginia to Mercer County, Kentucky. Their names were, Ben, Berry, Chesly and Nathan. Three of them married three sisters, daughters of Old Andy Divine. The sisters also had a brother, Andy Divine. They lived in Kentucky with their families as prosperous farmers until the war. Then Nathan and his two sons, Ben and Jim were killed. Then Berry and Chesly with their brother-in-law, Andy Divine came to Greensburg, Indiana and lived there until they passed on at a very old age. It seems that Andy was a family name on the Divine side and Berry and Nathan were family names on the Lawson side. Nathan was my grandfather and the son of Nathan was my father. After the war closed, he came with his family to Kokomo, Howard, County, Indiana. My grandfather had sixteen children, nine by his first wife who was a Divine and seven by his second wife. Their names were George, Bill, Berry, Nathan, Rachel, Polly, Sallie, Betsy and Linda. By the second wife, John, Jim, Ben, Sam, Tobie, Millie and Julie. Jim and Ben were killed during the war. Julie married a Divine and then Robert Parmer. She had a son, Andy Divine. I visited them, at the age of seven in Washington, County, Kentucky near my grandfather Lawson's old farm and next , I visited them after I was married. I visited with my aunt Linda in Burgin, Kentucky. But a part of her family had then gone. Some to Chicago and some to Los Angeles, California. That was nearly 20 years ago. It was a hobby of my aunt Linda'a to keep up with all the Kin, whether good or bad and I guess I formed the habit, too. Since I see you in themovies and you have all the earmarks of all our Divines. You must be one of us, and I would be proud to know it and I donn't think you would be ashamed to claim any of Nathan Lawson's family.

Rindy had travelled all over the United States, sometimes by stagecoach. Her husband was a newspaper publisher, at the time. They lived at Wheeling, Indiana, near Muncie, Indiana. Her brother was Russell Lawson of Gaston, Indiana. He may have been her nephew, He owned a automobile dealership in or near Gaston in 1963,
Andy Divine replied to her letter and did not believe he had any relatives in Kentucky or Indiana. He had a very unusual, and distinctive voice and Rindy said it was the same as some of the relatives, as well as his looks.
